The room
A Belle Époque salon by the architect Édouard-Jean Niermans, with painted landscapes, mirrors and gilt mouldings, little changed since it opened.

A Viennese pastry shop in Paris
Antoine Rumpelmayer, an Austrian confectioner who already had tea rooms on the Riviera, opened this one in 1903 and named it Angelina for a woman of his family. It became the meeting place of fashionable Paris: Proust came, and Coco Chanel had her own table.
The Rumpelmayer family kept it until 1963. It has opened other rooms since, at Versailles among them, but this is the original.
