A hotel dining room that outlived its hotel
The Orsay station was built for the Universal Exhibition of 1900, with a hotel of several hundred rooms along its front. The hotel closed in 1973, and the station was saved from demolition and turned into the museum that opened in 1986.
The dining room was kept as it was. It is one of the few places in Paris where you can eat an ordinary lunch in a room of that size and that decoration, and then walk straight out among the Impressionists.
