What Le Café Marly is known for
The terrace
A long row of tables under the stone arcades of the Richelieu wing, facing the pyramid and the Cour Napoléon. It is covered, so it works in the rain, and it is at its best at dusk when the pyramid lights up.
The rooms
Inside, high rooms with gilded panelling and padded banquettes, designed by Olivier Gagnère and Yves Taralon when the café opened in 1994. Some of the windows look into the museum's sculpture court, the Cour Marly, which gave the café its name.
No ticket needed
The café is in the palace but outside the museum. You walk in from the courtyard, without queueing for the pyramid.

A café in the palace
When the Louvre was rebuilt in the 1980s and 1990s, the finance ministry moved out of the Richelieu wing and the museum took it over. The Café Marly opened under its arcades in 1994, the work of the restaurateur Gilbert Costes.
It has been one of the fashionable terraces of Paris ever since, and the one with the best view. You pay for the view: come for a drink or a breakfast, and look.
