From Colbert's house to a brasserie
A mansion designed by Louis Le Vau stood here from 1637, and Jean-Baptiste Colbert bought it in 1665. The Galerie Colbert was built on the site in 1828, and a draper's shop called Au Grand Colbert opened beside it in the 1830s.
The shop became a restaurant in 1900. The Bibliothèque nationale, which owns the block, restored the room in 1985, and its front and the gallery are listed as historic monuments.
