The first grand hotel in Paris
Napoleon III ordered a hotel built for the visitors to the Universal Exhibition of 1855, and the Grand Hôtel du Louvre opened that year on the other side of the Place du Palais-Royal. It was the first hotel in France on such a scale.
In 1887 it moved across the square to the building it has occupied ever since, and its first home became a department store.
The hotel is managed by Hyatt, as part of its Unbound Collection.
