Painter, 1518 to 1594
Tintoretto
Jacopo Robusti was called Tintoretto, the little dyer, after his father's trade. He painted with a speed and daring that shocked his rivals, and Venice is full of his work: the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, the Doge's Palace, the Accademia and dozens of churches.

From 1564 to 1587 he painted more than fifty canvases for the Scuola Grande di San Rocco, and in his last years Paradise for the Hall of the Great Council in the Doge's Palace. He is buried in the church of the Madonna dell'Orto, near his house in Cannaregio.
