The life of Jaume Huguet

Huguet was born in Valls, in the country south of Barcelona, and worked for some years in Zaragoza and perhaps in Valencia before settling in Barcelona in the 1440s. He worked there for the rest of his life.

His altarpieces were made for the guilds and the parishes of the city. The MNAC has the panels of several, among them the Consecration of Saint Augustine and the altarpiece of Saint Vincent from Sarrià; another, made for the king's chapel of Santa Àgata, is still in place there.
