The gallery
Galleria Continua was founded in 1990 by three friends, Mario Cristiani, Lorenzo Fiaschi and Maurizio Rigillo, in San Gimignano, a small walled town in Tuscany better known for its medieval towers. Its main space there is a former cinema. The name states the aim: to give continuity to contemporary art in a landscape full of the art of the past.
Its choices of where to open have never followed the market. In 2004 it became one of the first foreign galleries in Beijing. In 2007 it took over a group of disused mills at Les Moulins, in the countryside east of Paris, for works of industrial size. Havana followed in 2015, then Rome, São Paulo, Paris and Dubai.
The gallery shows artists from every continent, many of whom make large installations: Ai Weiwei, Anish Kapoor, Antony Gormley, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Daniel Buren, Pascale Marthine Tayou. It does not announce prices.
