The café of the Opéra
The café opened in 1862 as part of the Grand Hôtel, built for the Paris that Haussmann was laying out. The Universal Exhibition of 1867 made it known across the world, and when the opera house opened across the square in 1875 its fortune was made.
It is still part of the hotel, now the InterContinental Paris Le Grand. It is expensive and it is full of visitors, and the room and the view are exactly what they were.
