What sets Shangri-La Paris apart
The view
The hotel stands on the slope above the Seine, directly across the river from the Eiffel Tower. Many rooms and most of the suites look straight at it, some from their own terraces.
The house
The building was finished in 1895 for Prince Roland Bonaparte, a great-nephew of Napoleon and a scientist, who kept his library and his collection of plants in it. The staircase and the state rooms are listed as a historic monument.
The restaurants
La Bauhinia, under a glass dome, serves French and South-East Asian food. Shang Palace is a Cantonese restaurant, and the bar, Le Bar Botaniste, is named for the prince's herbarium.
The pool
Chi, the spa, has a swimming pool seventeen metres long, lit by daylight.

A prince's palace on the hill of Chaillot
The mansion was built between 1892 and 1895 by the architect Ernest Janty for Prince Roland Bonaparte, a geographer and botanist, who filled it with a library of 150,000 volumes and one of the largest private herbaria in the world.
It passed through several hands after his death and was listed as a historic monument in 2009. Shangri-La, the hotel group from Hong Kong, bought it in 2005 and restored it over several years.
The hotel opened on 17 December 2010, the group's first in Europe, and has held the Palace distinction since 2014. The Trocadéro, the Palais de Tokyo and the Musée Guimet are all a few minutes away on foot.
