Hotel Cipriani, A Belmond Hotel
Giuseppe Cipriani, who had opened Harry's Bar, chose an empty plot at the tip of the Giudecca and, with the backing of three Guinness sisters, opened a hotel there in 1958. Its gardens and its pool, across the water from St Mark's, have made it a world of its own.
