Heineken Experience: the brewery on the Stadhouderskade
Heineken was brewed in this building on the edge of De Pijp for more than a century. The beer is made elsewhere now, but the brewery has become one of the most visited places in the city: part history, part show, with a glass at the end.

The first brewery, opened to visitors
The brewery was built in 1867 as Heineken's first, and it was the company's main brewery until 1988, when brewing moved to a larger, modern plant outside the city.
In 1991 it opened to the public as a visitor centre, and in 2001 it took the name Heineken Experience. It was remodelled in 2008, and again between 2021 and the end of 2022, when the front and the entrance were rebuilt.
The tour takes you over four floors of the old brewery: the history of the family firm, the brewing process from barley to bottle, the stables, and rooms of interactive displays, before the tasting bar.
