Moco Museum: street art and pop in a villa
Between the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum stands a brick villa with a tower, and inside it the art of the last fifty years that the big museums are slower to show: Banksy's stencils, Warhol's prints, Kusama's dots, and rooms where the art is made of light.

Before you go
- It stays open into the evening, later than the big museums on Museumplein: go there after the Rijksmuseum or the Van Gogh.
- An hour to an hour and a half is enough. The house is not large.
- The rooms are small. Avoid the middle of the day at weekends, when it is most crowded.
A banker's villa turned over to Banksy
Villa Alsberg was designed in 1904 by Eduard Cuypers, nephew of Pierre Cuypers who built the Rijksmuseum, for a banker, Siegmund Alsberg. It was one of the first private houses on Museumplein and remained one until 1939.
The Moco, short for Modern Contemporary, opened in it in 2016 as an independent museum, set up to bring modern art to a wider and younger public. It has since opened in Barcelona and London too.
Its displays change, mixing its own collection with loans. Banksy has been its best-known name from the start, with Warhol, Basquiat, Haring, Kusama, KAWS and Jeff Koons.
