The life of Santiago Rusiñol
Rusiñol was the grandson of a textile manufacturer and was meant to run the mills. He went to Paris instead, and in 1890 lived with Casas and Miquel Utrillo at the Moulin de la Galette in Montmartre, painting its quiet corners in greys and blues.
Back home he bought a house in Sitges, the Cau Ferrat, filled it with ironwork and paintings, and held the modernista festivals there in the 1890s. He was also a playwright and novelist, and in his later years painted gardens all over Spain.
