Bernabéu Stadium: the home of Real Madrid

Even people who care nothing for football come away impressed. The Bernabéu has been rebuilt inside a shell of steel ribbons, with a roof that closes and a pitch that slides away underground, and the tour shows you how.

What to see at the Bernabéu

    1. The panoramic view

The tour begins high in the stands, with the whole bowl beneath you and the city beyond the new roof.

    2. The trophy rooms

Real Madrid's European Cups and Champions League trophies, more than any other club has won, with the shirts, boots and balls of famous nights.

    3. The dressing rooms and the tunnel

The home dressing room, the players' tunnel and the bench at the side of the pitch. On match days and the day before, these are closed.

    4. The new stadium

The retractable roof and the steel shell outside, and the pitch that disappears underground between matches so that the stadium can be used for other events.

A stadium rebuilt around its team

Real Madrid has played here since 1947, when the president Santiago Bernabéu built a far larger ground beside the old Chamartín field. It took his name in 1955. It has held the final of the European Cup four times, the final of the European Championship of 1964 and the World Cup final of 1982.

Between 2019 and 2024 it was rebuilt while the team went on playing in it. It now seats more than 83,000 under a retractable roof, inside a curved skin of steel strips, and the grass is kept in a vault beneath the stands and brought up only for matches.

The tour is the club's museum as much as the stadium: the European Cups, the league titles and the Ballon d'Or trophies of its players are on show, with the dressing rooms and the bench.
