Under the golden snail
The restaurant opened in 1832 at the corner of the rue Montorgueil and the rue Mauconseil, a few steps from the market of Les Halles, and has specialised in snails from the start.
It has kept its black and gold front. Marcel Proust, Sacha Guitry, Picasso and Chaplin were among its customers, and Sarah Bernhardt, whose ceiling it now has.
