Basilica dei Frari: Titian's church
From the door of this vast brick church you see, framed by the arch of the choir screen, a blaze of red: Titian's Assumption, rising over the high altar where he painted it to hang. He is buried here too, a few steps away.

The friars' choir
The carved wooden stalls of the friars in the middle of the nave, behind a marble screen.

The friars' church and Titian's
Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari is the church of the Franciscan friars, the frari, built in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, one of the largest churches in Venice and its finest Gothic one.
It holds a run of masterpieces in the places they were made for: Titian's Assumption of 1518 on the high altar, his Pesaro Madonna, Giovanni Bellini's triptych in the sacristy and Donatello's wooden St John the Baptist, with the tombs of doges, of Titian and of Canova.
