Queen Margherita lived here while Palazzo Margherita, now the American embassy, was being finished. In 1911 the owner was given leave to add Regina to the hotel's name.

A palazzo in the Liberty style, as Art Nouveau is called in Italy, built in 1904, with high ceilings, a marble staircase and iron balconies over the street.

Via Veneto, before the cameras came
The hotel belongs to the first years of Via Veneto, when the street had just been laid out over the gardens of the Villa Ludovisi and was filling with embassies and grand hotels. The poet Gabriele D'Annunzio used it as a meeting place.
