Built by the Swiss, in 1906
The Hotel Excelsior opened on 18 January 1906. It was designed by the Swiss architects Emil Vogt and Otto Maraini for a hotel company from Lucerne. In the First World War two of its floors were a military hospital of the Italian Red Cross.
It was enlarged in 1953, when the building next door was bought and given a matching front and a sixth floor was added. It took the Westin name in 2000 and was fully renovated that year.
