Palazzo Portinari Salviati
Folco Portinari, the father of the Beatrice whom Dante loved, had his houses on this spot. The palace that replaced them was a bank for a hundred and forty years, and since 2022 a few people at a time have been able to sleep in it.

What sets Palazzo Portinari Salviati apart
Beatrice's family
The Portinari turned their houses into a palace between 1470 and 1480. The great altarpiece by Hugo van der Goes that hangs in the Uffizi was painted for one of them and passed through these rooms.
The Salviati
Jacopo Salviati, who married a daughter of Lorenzo the Magnificent, bought the palace in 1546, and his heirs enlarged it and had it painted.
The frescoes
Several suites keep the painted ceilings of the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, restored before the hotel opened.
Dante's quarter
The poet's parish church and the house that bears his name are round the corner. The cathedral is two minutes' walk.

Beatrice's family, the Salviati, a bank, a hotel
The palace was one of the grandest private houses in Florence, decorated first by the Portinari and then by the Salviati. It later served as the head office of a bank for almost a century and a half.
After a restoration it reopened on 15 April 2022, with suites for guests and some private apartments.
