The coffee
Antonio Ferrara opened the shop as a place for opera-goers to drink coffee after the theatre. The house says it was the first in the country to serve espresso.

Five generations on Grand Street
Ferrara has never moved and never been sold. It opened in 1892, when Mulberry Street was the centre of the largest Italian settlement in America, and it is one of very few businesses of that time still trading there.
