Lotte New York Palace
You enter the Palace through a courtyard that belongs in Rome: three wings of brown stone built in the 1880s for the railway magnate Henry Villard. The hotel itself is the glass tower behind them.

What sets Lotte New York Palace apart
The Villard Houses
Six houses designed as one palace by McKim, Mead and White, round a courtyard open to Madison Avenue. They are city landmarks. The centre wing is now the hotel's lobby.
The gilded rooms
The old drawing rooms and music room of the houses, with their carved ceilings, marble and gold leaf, are used as bars and for private events.
The Towers
The upper floors of the tower are a hotel within the hotel, with their own reception and views over the cathedral's spires.
Behind St Patrick's
The cathedral is across the street and Rockefeller Center just beyond it. MoMA is five minutes' walk north-west.

A palace of 1884, a tower of 1980
The Villard Houses were finished in 1884. A century later the developer Harry Helmsley built a tower of fifty-one floors behind them, kept the houses as its front, and opened the whole as the Helmsley Palace in 1981.
It was sold to the Sultan of Brunei in 1993 and to the Korean company Lotte in 2015, which gave it its present name.
