From the Gotham to the Peninsula
The Gotham Hotel opened on 1 October 1905. It was sold within three years, having failed to obtain a licence to serve drink because it stood too near a church, and changed hands many times over the following decades.
It was rebuilt inside in the 1980s, when the glass floors were added on the roof, and became the Peninsula in 1988.
