The St. Regis New York
John Jacob Astor IV built the St. Regis to be the finest hotel in America, and gave it things no hotel had: a telephone in every room, central air, a butler for every guest. He went down with the Titanic eight years after it opened.

What sets The St. Regis New York apart
The King Cole Bar
A small bar under a mural nine metres wide, Old King Cole, painted by Maxfield Parrish in 1906. The barman Fernand Petiot, who is credited with the Bloody Mary, worked here from the 1930s. The house calls the drink a Red Snapper.
Butlers
Every guest has the service of a butler, who unpacks, presses and brings coffee. The hotel has kept the custom since Astor's day and the brand has copied it round the world.
The building
Eighteen floors of limestone in the Beaux-Arts manner by Trowbridge and Livingston, with a mansard roof and a brass and glass sentry box for the doorman on 55th Street. It is a city landmark.
Two blocks from MoMA
The Museum of Modern Art is five minutes' walk, Rockefeller Center ten, and the south-east corner of Central Park four blocks up Fifth Avenue.
