What sets The Mark apart
Five blocks from the Met
The Metropolitan Museum is seven minutes' walk up Fifth Avenue. The Frick Collection is the same distance south, and the Guggenheim fifteen minutes north.
The interiors
Jacques Grange redesigned the hotel in 2009, with a lobby floor in bold black and white stripes that has become its signature.
The penthouse
A suite on the top two floors with its own roof terrace, opened in 2015. At more than 900 square metres it is the largest hotel suite in the United States.
The building
Schwartz and Gross designed it in the Renaissance Revival style. It opened in 1927 as the Hyde Park Hotel, an apartment hotel.

From the Hyde Park to the Mark
The Hyde Park Hotel opened in September 1927 and was sold at auction in the Depression. It became the Mark in 1988, was run for some years by the Mandarin Oriental group, and was bought by its present owners in 2006, who closed it for the redesign that gave it its look.
