    1. The room

      A panelled drawing room of a Fifth Avenue mansion, set with bentwood chairs, marble tables and lamps after the Viennese designers of the 1900s, looking onto Central Park.

    2. The cakes

      Apple strudel, Sachertorte and a dozen other cakes are laid out on a marble sideboard. The coffee comes as in Vienna, with a glass of water.

    3. The museum upstairs

      Klimt's golden portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer hangs on the floor above. The café can be visited without a ticket to the museum.

    A mansion of 1914

    The house at the corner of 86th Street was built in 1914 and became a museum of German and Austrian art in 2001. The museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, four blocks away, have announced that they will merge in 2028.
