A waiter's hotel
Charles Pierre Casalasco left Ajaccio as a young man, learned his trade in Monte Carlo, Paris and London, and arrived in New York at twenty-five. Backed by the financiers who ate at his restaurant, he opened the Pierre in October 1930. The Depression took it from him within two years.
Part of the building has been apartments owned by their residents since 1959. The Indian company Taj Hotels has run the hotel since 2005.
