What sets The Plaza apart
The corner of the park
The hotel faces Grand Army Plaza on one side and Central Park on the other. The carriages wait across the street, and the Mall and Bethesda Terrace are fifteen minutes' walk into the park.
The Palm Court
A room of palms and marble columns under a stained-glass ceiling, where afternoon tea has been served since the hotel opened.
Eloise
The six-year-old heroine of Kay Thompson's books of the 1950s lives on the top floor. Her portrait hangs off the lobby, and the hotel has a suite done up in her pink.
The building
Henry Janeway Hardenbergh designed it in the style of the French Renaissance, in white brick and marble under a green mansard roof. It is a National Historic Landmark.

A century at the top of Fifth Avenue
The present Plaza opened on 1 October 1907, on the site of an earlier hotel of the same name. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald drank here, Truman Capote gave his Black and White Ball in its ballroom in 1966, and the Beatles stayed on their first visit to America in 1964.
After a renovation completed in 2008 much of the building became apartments, and the hotel now has 282 rooms. It has belonged to the Qatari company Katara Hospitality since 2018.
