Opened by the king in 1910
Alfonso XIII and Queen Victoria Eugenia opened the hotel on 2 October 1910, on land that had once been part of the gardens of the Buen Retiro. The papers of the day praised the site as the healthiest and quietest in Madrid.
It was run for most of the century as the Hotel Ritz. Mandarin Oriental took it over and, after a long restoration of the whole building, reopened it under its present name.
