Corinthia London
The building opened in 1885 as the Metropole, one of the great hotels of Victorian London. It was taken over by the government in both world wars and kept as offices by the Ministry of Defence until 2007.

During the war parts of the secret services worked from its rooms. The corner turret looks straight down to the river and across to the London Eye.

The Metropole
The Metropole Hotel opened in 1885 on Northumberland Avenue, a new street cut through to the Embankment. The Prince of Wales, later Edward VII, kept a set of rooms in it.
The Crown sold the building in 2007. After three years of work it reopened in 2011 as the Corinthia.
