Brown's Hotel
James and Sarah Brown, who had been in service to Lord and Lady Byron, opened a hotel for gentlemen in Dover Street in 1832. It has grown to fill thirteen Georgian houses and has never moved, closed or changed its name.

What sets Brown's Hotel apart
The first telephone call
In 1876 Alexander Graham Bell, staying at the hotel, demonstrated his new telephone here, and the first successful call in Britain was made from the building.
The writers
Rudyard Kipling stayed for years and wrote part of The Jungle Book in his rooms. Agatha Christie was a regular, and the hotel is one of two said to be the model for Bertram's in her novel.

Thirteen houses
The Browns began at 23 Dover Street and took in the neighbouring houses one by one. In 1889 the hotel was joined to the St George's Hotel behind it, in Albemarle Street, which is now the front door.
Theodore Roosevelt stayed here before his wedding in London in 1886, and Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt on their honeymoon. The hotel has belonged to Rocco Forte Hotels since 2003.
