The carriage court was roofed in glass and planted with tall palms. Breakfast, lunch and tea are served at its foot, with the bedrooms looking down from galleries on every side.
The building
Red brick and terracotta with a central tower, in the style the Victorians called Jacobean. It is a listed building.
The railway years
The army took the hotel in both world wars as a hospital and an office, and from the 1940s it was the headquarters of British Railways. It became a hotel again in 1993.
Marylebone
Baker Street, with the house of Sherlock Holmes, is five minutes east, and the Wallace Collection fifteen minutes on foot.

The Hotel Great Central
The hotel opened in 1899, the year the Great Central Railway reached Marylebone. It was the last of the grand hotels the railway companies built at their London stations.
After half a century as railway offices it was restored and reopened in 1993, and has been called the Landmark since 1995.
