What sets The Ritz London apart
The Palm Court
A raised room of mirrors, gilded trellis and a marble fountain in the middle of the hotel, where afternoon tea has been served since it opened. It needs booking weeks ahead, and a jacket and tie.
The building
Charles Mewès and Arthur Davis gave it a steel frame, among the first in London, behind a front of Norwegian granite and Portland stone. The arcade along Piccadilly is copied from the rue de Rivoli in Paris.
The restaurant
A long room in the style of Louis XVI, with painted ceilings, bronze chandeliers hung on garlands and windows over Green Park. It is often called the most beautiful dining room in London.
Piccadilly
The Royal Academy and Fortnum and Mason are five minutes east along Piccadilly, and Buckingham Palace ten minutes away across the park.

Ritz's last hotel
The hotel opened on 24 May 1906. Ritz himself had retired through illness by then, but it was built as he had planned it, with a bathroom for every bedroom and brass beds in place of wooden ones, which he thought unclean.
It is a listed building, and in 2002 it became the first hotel to hold a royal warrant, for banqueting and catering.
