The park side
The back of the hotel opens straight onto Hyde Park. The entrance there may by tradition be used only by the royal family, unless the sovereign gives leave.
The ballroom
The young Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret learned to dance in it, and it has held royal wedding parties since.
After the fire
In June 2018, days after a long restoration was finished, a fire broke out on the roof. Nobody was hurt, and the hotel reopened fully the next year.
Knightsbridge
Harvey Nichols is across the road and Harrods five minutes away. The Serpentine is a short walk through the park from the back door.

Flats, then a hotel
Hyde Park Court was built as an exclusive block of 138 flats with a gentlemen's club. After its promoter was ruined it was converted, and opened as the Hyde Park Hotel in 1902.
The Mandarin Oriental group bought it in 1996 and gave it its present name.
