What sets The Lanesborough apart
The building
Wilkins designed it in 1827, a few years before he built the National Gallery, and it is listed at the second-highest grade. The hospital moved to south London in 1980.
Butlers
Every room and suite has the service of a butler, day and night, who unpacks, presses and brings tea.
Regency rooms
The hotel was decorated in the style of the 1820s, with gilding, painted ceilings and plaster friezes. A restoration finished in 2015 renewed all of it by hand.
Hyde Park Corner
Hyde Park begins at the door. Apsley House, the Duke of Wellington's home with its collection of paintings, is across the road.

St George's Hospital
The hospital was founded in 1733 in Lanesborough House, the country home of a viscount, when this was the edge of London. The house was pulled down and Wilkins's building put up in its place from 1827.
After the hospital left, the building stood empty for a decade. It opened as a hotel in 1991 and is managed by the Oetker group.
